PHOTOSYNTHESIS by Chris Richter speaks to the natural process of plants in nature and also to the process of the painting. Richter builds up many layers of oil paint; when he is satisfied with the layering, he sands segments of the layers down, illuminating the composition of the painting. Traces of the panel show through to reveal the beginning point. The result is a painting that evokes the sense of "looking into" something--perhaps through the trees into the forest. In PHOTOSYNTHESIS shown here, there is a feeling of looking into a pond, seeking a glimpse of the bottom.
PHOTOSYNTHESIS and other works by Chris Richter and Lawrence Fodor are featured in the exhibition INFINITE SEQUENCE, currently on view at Friesen Gallery through 31 January. Gallery hours are 10:00 AM- 6:00 PM, Monday – Friday, 10:00 - 5:00 Saturday, 11:00- 4:00 Sunday and always by appointment. friesengallery.com, 208.726.4174 Like us on Facebook!
