Friesen Gallery celebrates TRANSFER, a solo exhibition of works by Steve Jensen, a highly regarded Seattle artist who uses the symbolism of “boats” to evoke the journey of the individual, be it a physical, emotional, or spiritual, to another realm. TRANSFER includes sculpture, paintings, and carvings---and incorporates recycled glass and wood, boat resin, oil paints, driftwood and steel---to create art that transcends time and place while being completely accessible.
Jensen draws upon his Norwegian heritage as well as his travels to many countries, including Egypt, Kenya, Tahiti, India, China, and Thailand, incorporating a global sensibility into his art. Through his sculptural works, he explores the universal expression of carving as a vehicle of imagery that is inspired by our varying experiences, as well as the natural resources from which we all benefit. Jensen is committed to sustainable resources saying, “no living tree has or will be cut for the sake of my work.”
TRANSFER will show from 20 August to 30 September. The artist will be in attendance for the reception on Gallery Walk, 31 August, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
