Rogers and Hammerstein's wonderful musical "The King and I" will be presented at the nexStage Theater on Main Street in Ketchum from October 18-21. The shows will begin at 7:00pm nightly, and in addition there will be 2:00pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Come take a journey back to exotic Siam in 1862 where an English widow, Anna, has arrived to take a position to instruct the King's many royal wives and children in Western Ways. The King wants to move his country forward into "scientific thinking", yet he still struggles with ancient customs. Anna and the King experience volatile culture clashes, yet ultimately form a deep respect and friendship for one another. You will delight in the classic, well-known tunes like "Shall We Dance", "Getting to Know You", and "Hello Young Lovers." This show is ideal for the entire family. Tickets are on sale now at Iconoclast Books in Ketchum or by calling Cherie at 726-5349 x15 or 13. The Friday evening show is preceded by a Gala Benefit for the H. Edward Bilkey Scholarship Fund. An array of Thai food, desserts, and festive libations are offered to patrons before curtain and during Intermission. This show will have special ticket prices. "The King and I" is produced by the Family Main Stage program of St. Thomas Playhouse, a community performing arts organization.
