"Within my work, I am primarily concerned with the intersection between the sublime and the ominous. I am exploring textures derived from industrial and natural environments blending with dreamlike figures, often in a state of flux, to develop a series of visual narratives that speak about being both the witness and the witnessed."
Kate Baker is an Australian artist, whose evocative works traverse artistic disciplines, finding anchor in the medium of glass. Photography, digital and print-media techniques are combined with glass making to create works where enigmatic imagery is locked within layers of glass. Baker’s expansive approach to her practice has been validated in recent years by her growing national and international profile. In 2010 Baker won the internationally sought after E-merge Gold Award at Bullseye Glass, Portland USA, which has seen the demand for her work accelerate dramatically. Her artwork is featured in a number of significant collections around the world.
