Make a resolution to explore your own creativity this winter! The Sun Valley Center for the Arts is offering a course in Still Life Painting that meets five evenings in a row from 6 to 9 pm—perfect for people who work during the day (or are in town to ski). Sun Valley artist Lori McNee (see artists’ website) will show students how to position and light their own still lifes. “While painting the landscape out in the field, Mother Nature is in charge,” she says. “However, when setting up a still life painting, I am able to create my own small universe in my studio.” Students will learn how to set up a palette and how to use color, composition, light and shadow to best effect. Students can work in either acrylics or oils. Although this class is aimed at beginner to intermediate students, more advanced painters looking for a refresher in the basics are welcome to attend. A longtime Idaho resident, Lori is both a successful artist and an inspiring teacher who freely shares her knowledge on her popular blog, www.finearttips.com. You can learn more about her and see her art on her website, www.lorimcnee.com. Still Life Painting with Lori McNee meets Monday–Friday, January 28–February 1, from 6 to 9 pm at The Center, Hailey. Cost is $210 Sun Valley Center members / $260 nonmembers. Registration deadline is Monday, January 14. www.sunvalleycenter.org
