Coast Modern, a documentary on West Coast modernist architecture, will screen at the Magic Lantern in Ketchum on March 7, followed by a talk and Q&A with celebrated architect George Suyama.
Traveling along the Pacific coastline from LA to Vancouver, the film by Mike Bernard and Gavin Froome looks at three generations of modernist architects and the breath-taking homes that are their legacy. The Toronto Star said the film “will have you looking at your four walls in a different way . . . based on the ideal that a home transforms those who live in it.”
The Sun Valley Center for the Arts has invited George Suyama, founder of Seattle architecture firm Suyama Peterson Deguchi, to speak after the film about modernism and answer audience questions. Known for his blending of Japanese aesthetics and the Northwest love of the outdoors, Suyama is a recipient of the AIA/Seattle Medal of Honor and subject of the book Suyama: A Complex Serenity (2011) by Grant Hildebrand.
The screening begins at 7 pm and is $10 for Center members, $12 for the general public. Tickets will be available at the Magic Lantern on the evening of the show starting at 5 pm.
